The Hundred Intro
The Hundred is an exciting new cricket competition which was launched in 2021. Based in England, this is a tournament where eight teams compete against each other when it comes to men’s cricket and ladies cricket. Every match will see each team face 100 balls and so this is not dissimilar to Twenty20 cricket.
With T20 cricket proving to be so popular and the Indian Premier League being hugely popular all over the world, there was plenty of thought as to how this success could be replicated in England. A new format was born which would have different cities in England competing against each other over 100 balls.
The England and Wales Cricket Board first proposed The Hundred back in 2016 and there were lengthy delays due to COVID-19, although the thinking is that this new competition would appeal to a new cricket audience who would be able to understand the concept much more easily than Twenty20.
Each games lasts approximately two-and-a-half hours, with Southern Brave winning the inaugural men’s tournament. The Oval Invincibles won the women’s tournament in 2021 and there is plenty of betting interest when it comes to The Hundred.
How to Bet on The Hundred
The Hundred season lasts just one month, with the games being played in quick succession. Leading up to the tournament, there is the chance to bet on the outright market. Essentially you are wagering on the team that you think will land the title after all the games have been played.
As we get nearer to the action starting, then the top betting sites will price up the various matches about to take place. You can bet on the winner of each match and there is the option to place single bets or alternatively go for an accumulator bet on a selection of teams to win.
You can either choose to bet on a pre-match basis or alternatively wait for the game to go In-Play. The best cricket betting sites will have In-Play betting odds available and it can be tremendous fun placing live bets on the action, with the prices changing in accordance with what’s happening on the field.
The Hundred Match Betting
The most popular betting market is backing a team to win the game, with the bookies offering a two-way market so you either plump for Team A or Team B. Beyond this, there might be a cricket betting handicap market and that works well if you fancy a team to outperform their odds, even if they are the underdog.
A couple of other interesting markets are Top Batter and Top Bowler. The former cricket market allows you to select the player that is going to amass the biggest number of runs over the course of a match, with the players out to score big numbers in a short space of time.
The Top Bowler betting market will list all the players who are going to be bowling for either side and there are limitations with regard to the number of balls that any player can deliver. Therefore, it’s worth considering the players who are going to get the most opportunities to take a wicket and duly back them accordingly.
