Who are the Trent Rockets?

The Trent Rockets are one of the eight franchises taking part in The Hundred since the inaugural edition in 2021. The team is based out of Trent Bridge and it has been formed with the talent pool of three major counties — Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Derbyshire.

The Rockets were first established in 2019, before the first official draft of The Hundred, and they did an excellent job to assemble a squad with lots of potential and highly talented players from the three counties.

The Hundred History of the Trent Rockets

The Trent Rockets had the chance of assembling a squad from a huge talent pool of players from three counties and thus they managed to make a squad that did pretty well in both men’s and women’s editions.

Within a few days of the franchise being set up, former Zimbabwe captain Andy Flower was announced as the head coach of the men’s team. For the Women’s team, former Yorkshire women’s player Salliann Briggs was named as the head coach.

When the inaugural Hundred draft took place in October 2019, the Rockets picked up Joe Root as their headline men’s draftee. Natalie Sciver was claimed as their headline women’s draftee while Katherine Brunt was also picked up later. For the men’s team, Alex Hales and Dawid Malan joined Joe Root in the first team.

As far as their performance in the tournament goes, the Women’s side finished seventh in the competition whereas the men’s team made it to the knockout stages as they finished third.

Dawid Malan was the highest run-scorer for the Rockets in the inaugural season with 214 runs to his name and Marchand de Lange and Rashid Khan were the joint highest wicket-takers with 12 wickets each.

For the Women’s team, Nat Sciver was the highest run-scorer with 220 runs whereas SJ Johnson claimed the highest number of wickets with 15 scalps to his name.
