Who are the Oval Invincibles?
The Oval Invincibles are one of the eight franchises taking part in The Hundred since the inaugural edition in 2021. The team is based in South London and it has been formed by using the talent pool of two historic counties — Surrey and Kent.
The Invincibles were first established in 2019, just before the official Hundred draft took place and subsequently they went on to form a very strong squad consisting of some experienced international players and some serious talent from the two counties.
The Hundred History of the Oval Invincibles
The Oval Invincibles formed a very talented squad for both men’s and women’s competitions. Although the Women’s team couldn’t get the desired results as they finished sixth in the inaugural edition, the men’s team put on a competitive performance and finished fourth.
Just after a few days of forming the franchise, former Australia player Tom Moody was announced as the coach of the men’s team while Lydia Greenway was appointed in charge of the Women’s teams.
When the inaugural Hundred draft took place in October 2019, the Invincibles picked up Sam Curran as their headline men’s draftee while Laura Marsh was picked as their headline women’s draftee. Along with Sam Curran, his brother Tom Curran and Jason Roy also joined the men’s team. As far as the Women’s team goes, Fran Wilson joined Marsh in the team.
As far as their performance in the tournament goes, Jason Roy finished as the highest run-scorer for the Invincibles in the inaugural season with 186 runs to his name whereas Tom Curran was the highest wicket-taker with 10 wickets. For the Women’s team, Dane van Niekerk was the highest run-scorer with 259 runs whereas Tash Farrant claimed the highest number of wickets with 18 wickets to her name.
