IPL 2021: Jonny Bairstow, Chris Woakes and Dawid Malan pull out of UAE leg
With only eight days to go before the start of the rescheduled second leg of IPL 2021 in the UAE, England’s Jonny Bairstow, Chris Woakes and Dawid Malan have announced their decision to withdraw from the tournament.
As reported by The Guardian, the three individuals have taken the decision keeping England’s busy schedule ahead in mind. All three players were involved in the Test series between England and India that concluded recently. Not only that, they are also a part of England’s T20I squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup next month and might also be involved in the Ashes after that.
So the three individuals see this period as a much-needed time to spend with their family and friends. Hence, they have decided to withdraw.
While Punjab Kings have already named South African batsman Aiden Markram as the replacement for Malan, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals are yet to do so for Bairstow and Woakes respectively.

Bairstow’s absence could see David Warner getting his place back in the SRH XI. The Australian batsman was dropped from the first team in the first half of the tournament citing his poor form as the reason.
Both Malan and Woakes were pretty much back up players for Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals respectively. So it doesn’t make much of a difference for them in terms of team dynamics.
These three are not the only English players to withdraw from this leg of the IPL. Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes also did so a week back whereas Jofra Archer also got ruled out with an elbow injury. All three players ply their trade for Rajasthan Royals.
