Delhi Capitals register a clinical win against RR to bag their eighth win
Delhi Capitals registered a clinical 33-run victory over Rajasthan Royals to win their second consecutive game in UAE this season. With that win, they have once again reached the top of the table with 8 wins in 10 matches. Delhi Capitals made an uncharacteristic start after being told to bat first. Both Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw were sent back to the pavilion inside the first five overs.
However, Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant then revived the innings by stitching a 62-run partnership for the third wicket. Delhi’s skipper, however, got out on the 12th over to bring RR back into the contest. Shreyas Iyer (43 off 32) too got out two overs later to leave his team in trouble. After 13 overs, Delhi Capitals compiled 90 runs on the board.
Shimron Hetmyer played a short 16-ball 28-run cameo to extend the total further. However, Mustafizur and Chetan Sakariya bowled well at the death to eventually restrict Delhi to 154 runs at the end of the first innings.
In the absence of Evin Lewis, Liam Livingstone opened the batting for Rajasthan in the second innings. Both Liam and Yashasvi got back to the pavilion in just 1.1 overs, thanks to some great fast bowling from Avesh Khan and Anrich Nortje. Ravi Ashwin came into the attack early and sent David Miller early to leave RR reeling at 17 for 3 in just 4.2 overs.
Sanju Samson held the fort at one end and played right till the end. Though, he initially found it difficult to cut loose as the required rate kept going up. Samson went on to score 70 off 53 balls, however, he found little support at the other end. Wickets just kept falling at the other end and Rajasthan Royals could only manage to score 121 runs in 20 overs.
With that defeat, Rajasthan Royals have now slipped to the sixth position on the points table with 4 wins in 9 matches. They will be playing their next game against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday. On the other hand, Delhi Capitals face off Kolkata Knight Riders next on Tuesday.
