Sydney Thunder v Hobart Hurricanes

Match Odds

18/1/21, 08:15am (GMT), Canberra

Match Preview

With three defeats on the bounce things are going from bad to worse for the Hurricanes, who have now lost a key part of their middle-order with Colin Ingram returning to South Africa.

They have mustered just 267 runs across their last two innings and were indebted to Tim David’s unbeaten 31 for getting them to 139/5 in their last game, and while D’Arcy Short showed glimpses of a return to form with a 47-ball 54, he really struggled to get going.

They need Dawid Malan to step up while the Thunder, after shooting up the table and looking unbeatable, have now lost two on the bounce but still sit second.

A poor bowling effort cost them in the Sydney derby but their batting remains a force to be reckoned with.

Our Tips

Sydney Thunder to score more than 50.5 in their first six overs – 8/5 @ Betway

Alex Hales and Usman Khawaja set the tempo at the top of the order for the Thunder and really go hard at the bowling – cruising past 50 in the fifth over against the Sixers. With both men in good form, this could well continue against a struggling Hurricanes attack.

Dawid Malan (vs Usman Khawaja/Callum Ferguson) – 6/4 @ Bet365

Malan is the number one T20i batsman in the world and is due a score. While Khawaja has been in decent touch, Ferguson has fallen away following a strong start and Malan will be out to show why England are right to favour him over a possible return for Hales.
