Hobart Hurricanes v Sydney Thunder
Match Odds
HOBART HURRICANES – 7/8
v
SYDNEY THUNDER – 7/8
7/1/21, 07:10am (GMT), Perth
Match Preview
The Hurricanes have enjoyed a good start to the BBL without ever really putting a run of form together , but sit comfortably in the top four but having played a game more than most of their rivals.
Dawid Malan’s arrival hasn’t quite seen them kick on after they suffered defeat against the Melbourne Stars last time out, but it is the form of D’Arcy Short that will be most concerning in what has actually been a well-functioning batting line-up for the Hurricanes.
The opener has four single-figure scores in his last six knocks and a highest score of just 27 in that time, but Ben McDermott has shone and given the Hurricanes a real threat to go with the bowling form of Riley Meredith.
The Thunder saw their five-game winning run ended by Brisbane Heat on Monday but they remain a very dangerous and in-form side, setting this game up as one to watch.
Our Tips
Sydney Thunder to score over 50.5 runs in the first six overs – 8/5 @ Betway
The new Powerplay rules have changed the average scores in the first six overs, but they haven’t changed the way Sydney Thunder approach their batting. Usman Khawaja and in particular Alex Hales have been all-out attack from ball one, with Hales in devastating form and if that continues, expect them to blaze away at the start before consolidating in the middle overs.
Usman Khawaja to outscore D’Arcy Short – 1/1 @ Bet365
It hasn’t been Khawaja’s most productive tournament – he has a highest score of 48* in seven games – but he has still had enough starts to be confident of outscoring the painfully out-of-form Short.
