Australia v India, 1st Test
17/12/20, 04:00am (GMT), Adelaide
One of the most eagerly-anticipated series in recent years gets underway in Adelaide with the first Test of four set for a day/night game under lights.
The build-up surrounding Australia has been centred around the injuries that have hit their camp, with David Warner missing, Will Pucovski out with concussion, Cameron Green a doubt and Joe Burns suffering a complete loss of form.
There are decisions to be made at the top of the order with Matthew Wade likely to be promoted to face the new ball, but the rest of Australia’s side looks settled and very strong as they look to exact revenge for the 2-1 defeat on home soil in 2018.
Virat Kohli will only play in one Test before returning home to attend the birth of his child, so he will be looking to make an immediate impact but there are also question marks over India’s top order with Shubman Gill and Prithvi Shaw the contenders to partner Mayank Agarwal.
Australia are strong favourites for the series with their squad developing into the standout Test side in the world.
Josh Hazlewood to be the top bowler in the match – 11/2 @ Betway
Hazlewood will be relishing the opportunity to bowl with a pink ball after spending most of the year playing limited overs cricket, and he has a good record in day/night matches with 26 wickets in six Tests at 22.38.
To add to that, Adelaide is his most successful ground on home soil with 26 wickets at 21.38 in five games and his form in the recent ODI series suggested he may have the wood over Kohli.
Marnus Labuschagne to score a fifty – 1/1 @ Bet365
An absolute steal considering the recent form of Labuschagne. An overall career Test average of 63.43 is impressive enough, but he averages 85.41 on home soil with four centuries and four half-centuries in just 12 knocks. He is a major part of the Australia side.
